Ask any well-read person on what causes acne and you will get answers like ‘excess sebum secretion’, ‘clogged pores’, ‘stress’ and ‘hormonal changes’. Chances are, we all already know the common causes of acne, but there is one major cause of acne that many people often overlook. In many cases, personal hygiene is the main cause of pimples and blemishes.
Whether you are having a teenage acne, stress or hormonal related acne, the skin problem can be controlled if you have good skin hygiene in many cases. How do you know if personal hygiene is the main cause of your pimples? You can start by asking yourselves these questions: Do you wash your face twice a day? Do you refrain from touching your hands with your face? Do you change your pillowcase every 2 weeks? If your answer is ‘no’ to any of the questions above, it is very likely that your pimples are cause by your personal hygiene (or rather the lack of it)
When fighting acne, half the battle is won if you have good personal hygiene. As we all know, pimples are caused by bacterial infections under clogged pores, so if you keep your skin are sterile as you can, the skin problem can be controlled. In treating acne, the least you could do is to get yourself a great antibacterial face wash. Wash your face with it twice a day, no more, and no less. Any less and you will run the chance of accumulating too much bacteria on your skin. Washing your face too often will also aggravate your skin’s oil glands to produce more oil.
Another major cause of acne is the touching of your face with your hands. Your hands are home to millions of harmful bacteria and it is best to keep them away from your face. In fact, outside washing your face and applying moisturizers, your skin should not be in contact with anything at all throughout the day (no even tissues and handkerchiefs). If you have to clean your face in the middle of the day, wash it using an antibacterial face wash.
